Dr. Constantinos Costa is co-founder and CEO of Rinnoco Ltd, a research- and innovation-driven startup founded in 2021. His work sits at the intersection of academic research, technology innovation, and product development, with a focus on data management, big data systems, distributed and cloud computing, and high-performance computing. He has held teaching and research positions at the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology, and the University of Pittsburgh. He was Special Teaching Staff at the University of Cyprus in Fall 2024 and 2025, Special Teaching Staff at the Cyprus University of Technology in 2025, Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Cyprus in Fall 2023, and previously Visiting Research Assistant Professor and Research Associate at the University of Pittsburgh’s Advanced Data Management Technologies Laboratory from 2019 to 2023.

Dr. Costa received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus in 2018. Over the past decade, he has worked on novel software stacks and services for both research and industrial projects, collaborating with organizations including Appcampus (Finland), Cywee (Taiwan), MTN Telco (Cyprus), Geomatics (Cyprus), and Nicosia General Hospital (Cyprus). He has also contributed extensively to the open-source Anyplace platform for indoor navigation and localization, helping create new research and industry collaborations. His research and development experience spans databases, spatial and spatiotemporal big data, NoSQL systems, and scalable data-intensive platforms. His publication record includes journal papers, conference papers, and workshop publications. He also led the ADMT lab’s CAPRIO and HealthDist projects, which received the Best Industrial and Application Award and the Best System Demonstration Award at IEEE MDM 2021. He is also the project coordinator of research and innovation projects funded under Cyprus’ Research Promotion Foundation RESTART programme.

Beyond research, he is particularly interested in how ideas evolve from research to innovation to product, and in the processes and qualities required to build a company grounded in deep technical expertise. His work reflects a broader commitment to transforming academic knowledge into practical tools, meaningful collaborations, and real-world impact.
